Plakias at a Glance
Perfect for a relaxing sunshine holiday, Plakias boasts a lovely sand and shingle beach complimented by calm, turquoise waters. Located approx. 40km south of Rethymnon and a favourite destination for regular Olympic Holidays customers, it’s easy to see why, with a beautiful beach hosting Tavernas serving fresh seafood and a scattering of bars and Kafenia (plural for Kafenio, a traditional Greek Café and meeting place), Plakias is your quintessential traditional Greek beachfront village.
The adventure starts enroute to Plakias as you pass through the impressive Kourtaliotiko Gorge with the small church of Aghios Nikolaos built into the Gorge itself. Plus you'll pass a 40 metre high waterfall, before the road leads you to Plakia beachfront.
Nightlife is low key and is centred around the local tavernas and bars, although there is a disco for those seeking late-night holiday fun!
